The Pear Tree Fellowship December 2017 & January 2018

The Pear Tree Fellowship

At our October Meeting we had two speakers from Dial A Ride, a husband and wife;  one who drives and one who takes all the bookings.

Dial A Ride is part of ‘Vision Wimborne’ which was started when Veronica King was Mayor of Wimborne in 1996.  After that she was speaking to a disabled person who found that the buses were not geared for disabled people and she had become a virtual prisoner in her own home.  They now have three purpose-built car/vans to transport people where ever they need to go.  This can be to a hospital appointment, dentist or other appointments or to a club, U3A or a shopping trip, lunch club or even a family celebration.  They can accommodate wheel chairs  and take mobility equipment as well.  It is run by volunteers but they have a scale of charges which keep it going.  All drivers are CRB checked.  They are not only taking people from Wimborne they cover an area stretching to all East Dorset borders including Ferndown and West Parley.  Although many areas have their own Neighbourhood Cars available also these are always private cars which do not have room for wheel chairs.

Next month on 12th December we shall again be making our own Decorations for use in the Church over the Christmas period.  Afterwards we shall no doubt enjoy our usual Christmas Tea.

Can we take the opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and a good New Year.  Bless you all.
